English Department

Wendy Steiner holds the Richard L. Fisher Professorship of English at the University of Pennsylvania, where she has been on the faculty since 1979. Her teaching fields are interartistic relations and literature in English of the 20th and 21st centuries. Chair of the English Department from 1995 to 1999, Professor Steiner founded the Penn Humanities Forum in 1999.

Among the graduate and undergraduate courses she offers are: "Ethical Controversies in the Arts," "On Beauty," "Contemporary American Fiction," and "The Idea of the Model." She has supervised doctoral dissertations by, among others, Thomas Yingling, Joshua Mostow, Laura Tanner, Kirk Hughes, Katherine Milligan, Karen Schiff, and John Heon.
