Global Feminisms
Feminism has both united women and also generated debates between women of different races, locations and sexual orientations, not just across the world but also within the US.
This course provides you with an opportunity to read and think about these alliances and differences. We will engage with writings that range over questions of racial, religious and ethnic difference, Black and “third world” women in the West, as well as feminist developments within the global South. We will consider key writings about race, the family, sexuality, the body and agency. Topics covered will be varied; and include reproductive justice, violence against women, global trafficking, the environmental crisis, gender and nationalism, and new forms of female labor.
